Uzbekistan and Pakistan join forces to develop IT services export

Representatives from IT Park Uzbekistan, led by Makhliyo Muksinova, Director for Services Export Development, convened with a delegation from Pakistan, which was headed by Ahmad Ikram Lone, Chairman of the Gujranwala Business Centre (GBC) and CEO of the Lone Group of Companies. This meeting focused on identifying opportunities to enhance bilateral collaboration in information technology, digital solutions, and the export of IT services. The two parties shared insights on developing technological ecosystems, supporting startups, and implementing innovations in both the private and public sectors.

The Pakistani delegation included representatives from eight companies spanning various sectors, such as information technology, digital solutions, software development, and media. The group featured members from Lone Group & Co/ONIT Global, OKTO Home Appliances, Eagale Soft, Minhas Group of Industries, A&J Impex, Chaudhary Enterprises, Jazaa Chemie, and Gujranwala News.

The Gujranwala Business Centre (GBC) is a governmental entity operating under Pakistan’s Ministry of Industries and Production. It brings together over 21,000 enterprises and plays a crucial role in enhancing the industrial and export capabilities of Gujranwala, the nation’s third-largest industrial center. GBC actively promotes the “Made in Gujranwala” initiative, aimed at bolstering the region’s export potential and fostering international partnerships.

During the discussions, the parties examined current trends in the IT market, government support mechanisms for IT service exporters, and Uzbekistan’s potential in economic digitalization and human capital development. The Pakistani delegation showcased their companies' activities and expressed interest in the advantages of becoming a member of IT Park Uzbekistan.

Ahmad Ikram Lone remarked that Uzbekistan has made notable strides in digital development and in creating a conducive environment for the growth of IT businesses. He highlighted that establishing direct collaboration with IT Park Uzbekistan presents new opportunities for Pakistani firms regarding partnership, investment, and access to the Central Asian market.

Following the discussions, the parties agreed to arrange a subsequent online meeting to further explore areas of cooperation, including the development of IT solutions, industrial digitalization, IT services export, cybersecurity, and educational initiatives.

The meeting marked another advancement in fostering collaboration between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in the realm of information technology. Collaborative initiatives in innovation, the export of IT services, and the development of human capital are anticipated to bolster the technological capabilities of both nations and further position Uzbekistan as a global IT hub.
