Startup Genome explores Uzbekistan’s startup ecosystem

Abdulakhad Kuchkarov, the CEO of IT Park Uzbekistan, convened a meeting with a delegation from the international research and consulting organization Startup Genome, headed by Christopher Haley, Head of Research. The aim of the visit was to engage with key stakeholders within Uzbekistan’s ecosystem, collect data, outline the main steps for the execution of the first phase of their joint project, and exchange insights regarding the evolution of the country's startup landscape.

Startup Genome is a global entity based in San Francisco, United States, that focuses on research and strategic consulting for startup ecosystems. The organization collaborates with over 185 ministries and agencies in more than 65 countries, produces flagship reports such as GSER and APEXE, and formulates KPIs and policy recommendations to foster innovation ecosystems globally.

In a significant development for its long-term partnership with Startup Genome, Uzbekistan was included for the first time in the GSER 2025 global report. This milestone signifies a major advancement in strengthening the collaboration and acknowledges the potential of Uzbekistan’s rapidly expanding startup ecosystem on the global stage. During ICT Week 2025, Christopher Haley shared initial insights regarding the development of the country’s ecosystem as part of the report.

Meeting participants highlighted the necessity of expanding entrepreneurial programs in universities, utilizing the expertise of the diaspora, and retaining local talent by creating opportunities within startups.

Following their discussions, the parties reached an agreement to perform a thorough analysis of the ecosystem, create a roadmap to support high-growth companies, initiate AI infrastructure projects, and expand educational programs.

This partnership will boost Uzbekistan’s international profile, enhance its standing on the global startup ecosystem map, and set strategic benchmarks for the ongoing development of its innovation-driven economy.
