Representatives of Uzbekistan and NICT Japan discussed strategic cooperation in ICT

Akihiro Sakurai, Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, and Abdullakhad Kuchkarov, CEO of IT Park Uzbekistan, met with Hideyuki Tokuda, President of the Japan National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (NICT). The discussions centered on potential long-term collaboration, including joint research initiatives, exchange of expertise, and development of human capital within the information and communications technology sector.

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) is Japan's leading national research institute focused on information and communications technology. Founded in 2004 and based in Tokyo, NICT acts as the central government hub for research in Beyond-5G and 6G networks, artificial intelligence, quantum communications, cybersecurity, and innovative networking technologies. The institute collaborates with universities, private companies, and government organizations globally and is responsible for establishing Japan's national standards for time and frequency. NICT's total assets are estimated at around $84 million.

During the talks, the parties examined the potential for forming a strategic partnership that would involve NICT, relevant Uzbek ministries, and Uzbekistan's national research institutes. The discussions highlighted the possibilities for joint research and development projects, as well as pilot initiatives in artificial intelligence, quantum communications, and next-generation networks.

A significant focus was placed on specialized training and the transfer of international knowledge. The participants deliberated on implementing collaborative educational and research programs that would engage Uzbekistan's national research institutes in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Additionally, the meeting covered the provision of technical training and professional development programs, utilizing Japan's expertise in digital education.

The parties emphasized that scientific progress is essential for sustainable digital transformation. In this regard, an initiative was proposed to explore the establishment of a data center in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, with the acknowledgment that the Government of Uzbekistan is ready to support this project.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their dialogue concerning the specified areas of ICT research and workforce development.

Collaboration with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) offers substantial prospects for the progress of scientific and human resource initiatives at IT Park Uzbekistan. Partnering with one of Japan's foremost research institutions aids in bolstering international relations, facilitating knowledge transfer, and incorporating cutting-edge practices in ICT. As a result, this alliance will improve the research capabilities of IT Park Uzbekistan, raise the standard of professional training, and contribute to the establishment of a robust digital ecosystem in Uzbekistan.
