Minister of Digital Technologies discussed bilateral cooperation in digitalization with the Ambassador of Latvia

Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with Girts Jaunzems, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The discussion centered on identifying promising avenues for bilateral cooperation, particularly in creating high-paying job opportunities for the youth and enhancing remote work prospects.

It was emphasized that the interest in learning foreign languages in Uzbekistan continues to rise annually, notably in English, Japanese, and Korean, among others. This trend was identified as a crucial element in promoting collaboration in the ICT and digital economy sectors.

Minister Shermatov proposed strategies to attract Latvian companies to Uzbekistan and to assist their integration as members of IT Park. He also highlighted the benefits provided by IT Park, including tax incentives and favorable conditions for member companies.

Particular focus was placed on enhancing cooperation in the export of IT services. The Minister pointed out that leading firms from Japan, Korea, and Arab nations are already joining IT Park, with their numbers consistently growing. He noted that this sector also presents significant opportunities for Latvian businesses.

The dialogue also covered the development of the startup ecosystem, encompassing support for startups, attracting investments, and the collaborative execution of innovative projects.

Ambassador Jaunzems, for his part, highlighted the considerable potential for furthering cooperation in existing areas of engagement. He also revealed that Latvian companies plan to participate in “ICT Week Uzbekistan 2025,” scheduled for 23–26 September this year.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the enhancement of collaboration in cybersecurity, digital partnerships, and the cultivation of digital skills.

On the same day, the Ambassador of Latvia was acquainted with the operations of the UZTELECOM center.
